Transformers Devastator Lesson

***tier-3-top.shtml*** Transformers Devastator

In Transformers Devastator is easily one of the coolest decepticons. In the newest movie, he unleashes havoc by basically inhaling everything in his path, before disintegrating it and spewing it out behind him.

Devastating!

Here in this lesson - I've done my best to create a simplified version of this character - such that you can come up with a homage to this robot of your own. There are parts that are like the original, and there are parts that are somewhat different. But all in all - when viewed... the main goal is to have someone say... 'Yes - that looks like him!'

And by the way... this is the fourth lesson that visitors (you!) decided upon as part of the 'You Decide!' section, where you can vote on what Friday's drawing lesson should be.

First Step - Building Blocks for Pure Devastation!

In approaching this giant robot - a framework of simple squares, rectangles and circles - help to map out the overall shape and stance before you actually go ahead and start laying down those lines.

Here's what I came up with...

The purple path represents the beam that sucks up everything in front of him. I opted for a solid green color (see up top) - as given the nature of simple cartoons... we can get away with it! - and still have everything looking pretty good in the end.

The position of his left limb - indicates he's either saying 'hi' - or just crushed something. A logical guess, would point to the latter. :-)

Here goes...

Second Step - Transformers Devastator Drawing Lesson

Again, please keep in mind - there are a few areas where I've simplified what would otherwise be an extremely detailed and tedious process. It's all part of drawing cartoons. Given a reference picture - feel free to add more or less detail as you choose.

Oh - and one thing I should point out!... his left limb should actually have a wheel track on the bottom instead of just wheels. It's something I omitted unintentionally - but it wouldn't take much to tidy it up with lines of your own.

Here are the steps...

Alright!!

In the end, a simplified version of an otherwise extremely complex decepticon from Transformers, is produced.

Tedious? Yes! Difficult at times? For sure! Fun??? Definitely... especially a cool-looking robot like this.

Well, that's all for this lesson. Until next time!
